Oct. 16 News!

⭐ All About Me

Check those backpacks! Today, students brought home everything they need to begin their All About Me posters. Each student will have a special day as our Very Important Person, sharing photos, memorabilia, and interesting facts about themselves. It’s a fun opportunity to celebrate each child while building confidence with public speaking!  We can’t wait to learn more about everyone!

🎃 Pumpkin Patch Countdown!

Our pumpkin patch adventure is getting closer! If you still need to register, pay, or send in paperwork, please take care of this soon. I’ll be organizing our drivers and finalizing paperwork later next week. A huge thank-you to everyone helping make our field trip possible!

🍂 We Need Nature Treasures!
For our upcoming Buddy Art project, we are studying David M. Bird’s Becorns and creating some of our own! Please send in any acorns, chestnuts, seeds, pods, interesting natural materials, or even avocado pits you can find.

We’re also creating fall portraits with leaves for hair, so flattened colourful leaves would be greatly appreciated too! Happy collecting!

Division 13 Weekly News

A big thank you to Evelyn's dad for cutting the wood for our project and to Nolan's mom for helping us create our beautiful Thanksgiving turkeys! The students were so proud of their work, and these special creations will make wonderful centrepieces for your Thanksgiving celebrations.

It has been a busy and exciting week in Division 13! We began both our Reader's Workshop and Math Stations. During Reader's Workshop, students rotated through a variety of literacy activities designed to build reading and writing skills. In Math, we focused on patterns, odd and even numbers, and place value (tens and ones) while playing two fun Thanksgiving-themed math games. In Theme (Science and Art), we learned and reviewed the pumpkin life cycle. The students did an amazing job creating their pumpkin projects and were very proud of their finished work.

We also completed our special Terry Fox art project, and the display is now hanging in the hallway. We have already received many compliments! If you are visiting the school, please take a moment to stop by and have a look. I'll be sure to share a photo in next week's update.

Homework: Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

As Thanksgiving approaches, we have been discussing how fortunate we are and the importance of showing gratitude. Students have been given a Gratitude Scavenger Hunt to complete at home as they look for things they are thankful for in their daily lives.

Gym News

In gym this week, students participated in relay races that required teamwork, communication, and cooperation. Each team worked together to run and successfully complete three different 48-piece puzzles. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another and working collaboratively to achieve a common goal.

Writer's Workshop

We began Writer's Workshop this week, and Div. 13 absolutely loved it! Students were excited to share their ideas and get started on their writing. I think we have a lot of future authors in our classroom!
